Evaluation: Question 7- Looking back at your preliminry task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full production?

College/music front cover:

  • Firstly looking at the college magazine then the music magazine it is clear that the use of technology has had an impact on the quality of the pictures. The pictures on the college magazine was taken by a cyber shot camera where as the music magazine was taken on an LSR. This had made the music magazine look a lot more professional.
  • Also the layout of the magazine makes the music magazine look a lot more organised and professional but with out taking the rock image away. Where as the stories on the college magazine are just jotted around and it looks basic and boring.

  • The fonts used on the music magazine has changed drastically from the music magazine a lot more thought has been added to them and it looks a lot more professional making the music magazine come together better.
  • Also the mise- en - scene of the pictures have been thought of a lot more which makes the magazine more busy and interesting. Where as the college magazine just has a plain background and it looks boring.
  • Another major difference is the use of the cut out tool on photoshop and how neatly I have done it for the music magazine compared to the music magazine.
  • Also on my music magazine I have used different font types giving the magazine more of a flare and making it more fun to read. Whereas on the college magazine the fonts are the same making to college magazine boring and one tone.

College/Music contents page:
  • The layout of the two contents pages are totally different from one another. The college magazine contents is very plain and typical, whereas the layout for the contents on the music magazine is very creative and does resemble a rock attitude as it is busy and eye catching.
  • Also the pictures are different, the pictures on the college magazine is are very basic although they do resemble college students. The pictures on music magazine all tell different stories and they are all to a good quality which again is due down to the SLR cameras.
  • The font size and the colours work better then the colours used on the college magazine. this is because the colours on the music magazine are clear and carry on through out the magazine (house style). The font size is also more conventional on the music magazine as after research, magazine have a small font size so they are seen with out taking up too much room.
  • On the other hand I have used the traditional use of three colours in both college and music magazine and this is because this is a convention of all existing media products.

Overall I have found and realized that from the college magazine to the music magazine I have learnt how to make use to my advantage, all the technologies available. Also I have found that when it is clear what your product is Photoshop is really easy to and makes your work look a lot more better and professional.

Evaluation: Question 6 - What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

The Imac computer allowed my to put my magazine together and tweak and change it for the best. Also it allowed me to change pictures so I could create better images and make my magazine look how it should to target the audience.

The SLR camera I used to for my photography, this camera enabled me to catch great shots and to a brilliant picture making my magazine look more professional.

Photoshop I used to create my front page, contents and two page spread. This helped my to create my layout and improve my pictures.

I used Slide share to upload my PowerPoint onto so I could embroid it onto my blogger. the presentation was for question one of my evaluation and it was comparing use, Develop and Challenge for my magazine to another rock magazine.

Blogger I have used to upload all the work, research and drafts I have done for my magazine. The blogger holds all of my work and allows me to update thing whenever its needed.

Iphoto I used to upload all of my pictures to the computer. Also using the I photo I can look through all my pictures and find which ones were best to use for my magazine.

Flickr is a website I used to upload my pictures and talk about distribution services. such as 3vision distribution. Also I have created my own distribution company for my magazine.

Screen grabs of technologies I have used to produce my magazine.

Evaluation: question 5- How did you attract/ address your audience?

Tuesday, 29 March 2011

Evalution: Question four - Who would be the audience for your media product? why?

I have drawn a picture of my target audience and drawn of like a spider diagrams their: Favourite films; favourite programmes; hang outs; Idols on music; Favourite music; shops; hobbies. All these link to the audience that will attract to my magazine, not everyone but at least one thing will relate to them.

These are the audience for my magazine because after research into other magazines like mine these are the types of bands they are into etc. Out of the big majority of things in the magazine these were the main interests and hobbies of the target audience so if I had these conventions in my magazine I will attract the right audience and my magazine will be a success.

Evaluation: question 2 - How does your media product represent particular social groups?

similarities -
  • The shot type is the same, medium close- up and I think this makes the image more interesting. Also it allows the audience to see the facial expression.
  • I think the facial expressions are very similar and they both give the impression that there attitudes are typical of a rocker, outrageous and out going.
  • The backgrounds are similar because they are both a basic background but they both make the person in the picture stand out.
Difference -
  • There outfits are a lot different and they help to portray different meanings. The black represents anger but also not caring. the yellow may represent fun which would go with her facial expression.
  • They're poises are different and they both tell a different story, although their facial expressions are similar.
  • The lighting in the photos are different. The top photo has very high key lighting, showing the mood of the girl. Then my picture is a bit more low key and this is to represent her anger and attitude.
